Back to the grind… sorta
Well i’m back at work finally after a good 1 half weeks off attending to my 2 most important things in my life. No it’s not games & food idiot… wife & kid laaaaa.
Let me tell you how it all went down. Audrey will correct me in comments on where i mis-recounted or got my timing wrong… naturally.
27th July 2006
08:00am – Having dim sum at Taman Megah
08:45am - Reach Kelana Jaya Medical Centre (KJMC)
09:00am – Check into room 328
10:00am – I leave for work (just across the damn road la!)
10:30am – Put in the ‘Pill’ to thin the cervix
01:00pm – I decide to take half day off to be with Audrey
fastforward
05:00pm – Cervix is thinning but still need a second ‘Pill’ to move things along
07:00pm – Dilation is pretty minimal but the pain slowly ramping up
10:00pm – Contractions are getting more rapid and painful but dilation isn’t improving
10:30pm – We jointly made the decision to let Audrey be on Epidural
11:00pm – I go out for supper to prepare for a long night. She’s put on the drip
11:30pm – Baby’s heartbeat takes a plunge, doctor recommend C-sect
28th July 2006
12:30am – Audrey goes into surgery, has to be gassed so i wasn’t allowed in.
01:30am – Shane Lim is born!
There was a bit of a hair-raising point after Shane was born. Due to the epidural he was a bit zonked coming out. The Paedy told me that Shane wasn’t breathing on his own. The Paedy was stroking his heart to start it pumping. After a few tries still no luck so he opted to put a pipe down his throat to suck out anything that could be blocking him from breathing. The nurse was a bit kelam-kabut, couldn’t find the pipe of the right size, kept giving the Paedy the wrong size (too bloody big)… which annoyed the hell out of him. Just as she finally found the right one … Shane took a big gasp of air… and he was fine! PHEW!
That was one of the more harrowing experiences i had to go thru. Fortunately my son beat the odds on his own terms. I was a bit worried that we had to stick something like that down this throat right out of mummy’s tummy. It was already quite an experience watching on the sidelines as i see my wife getting cut up like a piece of meat on a table. I never recommend it for the quesy guys who can’t take the sight of blood. I was ok actually, i was more worried about the mother and child to be thinking of how much blood there was… actually i don’t even recall that… all i know was i kept praying that everything is going to be ok. After all that i had to watch as my son was being man-handled to get him breathing. It wasn’t pleasant, but wat a relief when all the doctors told me that everything was fine. Audrey was doing ok, baby is ok… wahh… the relief nearly made me soil my pants.
Fastforward to today. My son’s eating well, strong as an ox and sleeps like a pig. Audrey’s recovering from the operation, still hurts but thankfully we have an amazing confinement lady. She’s the kewlest confinement lady you’ll ever find. Everything is good… just tired from all the sleepless nights. Other than that it’s really a new chapter in our lives and i’m going to enjoy it as much as i can … sleep depravation and all!
